At the EXO Foundation, we are always seeking out impactful social enterprises that empower local communities and preserve cultural heritage. Recently, our team in Egypt identified Fair Trade Egypt, an exceptional organization that aligns perfectly with our responsible travel values and B-Corp initiatives.
Fair Trade Egypt acts as a critical lifeline for traditional craftspeople, supporting around 2,000 local artisans across the country. Crucially, 90% of these artisans are women, providing them with vital financial independence and community leadership opportunities. Operating two boutiques in Zamalek and Heliopolis, they manage nationwide projects that protect unique cultural traditions.
The Project: Travel for Good Workshops
To bring this wonderful initiative closer to our travelers, we have launched a collaboration to develop interactive “Travel for Good” products. Following an introductory meeting focused on our responsible travel standards, we co-developed an experiential workshop concept.
On June 22, we successfully ran a trial art and craft workshop. This hands-on experience allows travelers to connect deeply with Egyptian traditions while directly funneling economic benefits to the creators themselves.
Our Commitment & Impact
Moving forward, we plan to feature these workshops widely across our proposals. To ensure the long-term viability of this community-based experience, the EXO Foundation is looking to provide partial funding to host these series throughout 2026 and 2027. This support will help scale the pilot project, making it a staple experience for upcoming group journeys and further uplifting the marginalized communities involved.
