Tontoton is an organization that has developed a community based solution for cleaning up and disposing of all plastics in particularly polluted areas. The organization recycle, upcycle and coprocess plastic, supporting local communities and the environment in Cambodia and Vietnam. They are certified under both the Ocean Bound Plastics (OBP) Neutrality Standard and the Social+ OBP Standard, which guarantees quality and ethical work.
What do they do?
Collect of all plastics
The foundation collects the plastic in the most polluted coasts, all types of plastics are collected, even those that cannot be recycled.
Social recycling
The plastic that can be recycled is sent to a recycling center. The plastic that is harder to recycle is transformed into new products using heat-processing techniques. To support plastic collectors, they are provided with durable, UV-resistant roofing and wall materials created from the plastic waste. Recycled products are also used to build complete houses as part of community projects to revitalize polluted villages and support the people most impacted by plastic. For example schools are constructed using recycled plastic.
Stable employment opportunities
Waste collectors benefit from a stable price per kilo of all plastic waste which is not influenced by market fluctuations and guarantee a reliable income.
Education and awareness
The organization also organizes educational campaigns to raise awareness among students, communities and tourists.
