EXO Cares booklet receives praise from the World Travel & Tourism Council
EXO Foundation’s advising role in sustainable tourism was highlighted in the last issue of the WTTC Sustainability Exchange. The EXO Cares booklet, designed to improve travelers’ experience and optimize positive impacts on the local destinations and their hosts, receives ‘… a tick for excellence for putting human issues top of the agenda and for making this handbook not only accessible and practical but also thought provoking.’
Besides the environmental and cultural recommendations provided, WTTC also celebrates the central character given by the booklet to social sustainability, as well as the didactic way in which it addresses controversial issues such as visits to schools and orphanages or giving money to street children. You can access the full article in WTTC newsletter here.
6,000 English copies and 4,000 of the French version of the EXO Cares booklet have been distributed by Exotissimo to travelers (one per family or FIT). An updated edition is under review and a Spanish version will be released in 2014. Attractive, this convenient pocket size publication reveals to be a precious holiday companion for all, enhancing travelers’ experience in Asia. It also provides guidelines on how their holiday can significantly benefit local populations and contribute to poverty alleviation, including a list of shops where they are guaranteed that the items they purchase are made in the country following fair trade principles.
The World Travel and Tourism Council is the forum for business leaders in the travel and tourism industry, with members and partners from all over the globe. Every year, WTTC organizes the Tourism for Tomorrow Awards, giving recognition to the best practices in sustainable tourism within the industry worldwide. The EXO Foundation was honoured to be selected as an in kind sponsor for Tourism for Tomorrow Awards.
