INDONESIA
Kalaweit – Protecting Idonesian’s forest & wildlife
We are happy to start supporting this project in Indonesia. Kalaweit has been actively engaged in the islands of Borneo and Sumatra for several years focusing their activities on gibbons preservation. They are currently aiming to buy hectares of lands in order to extend the protected area. The Supayang reserve is located in Sumatra where the forests and wildlife are highly threatened by palm oil plantations, etc. More information here.
Sulawesi – Emergency response
In September, Sulawesi has been affected by a tsunami which has devastated part of the island. We have been supporting twice a team of doctors and nurses, previous volunteers for the Lombok relief, whom took shifts in Sulawesi and went around in villages to give free medical consultations. Moreover, during their last intervention, in addition to the medical supplies, we have been supporting the purchase of water filters distributed to local families. More information here.
Run to Give – Event
A group of EXO team members of our Bali office took part in the “Run To Give”, a charity event organized by Marriott group to support Lombok relief and education programs in Bali.
Bali Reforestation Festival
Organized by Yayasan Hijau Lestari and joined by 11 EXO team members, this event enabled us to support the plantation of 160 trees in Kintamani!
CHINA
Children of Madaifu – An Orphanage without walls
This year we have renewed our support to “Children of Madaifu” which is doing an amazing job at identifying children living in difficult circumstances without parents caring for them. They visit the children at home and at their schools to assess their needs and to ensure that they can stay with their grandparents, aunt or uncle. When they start supporting a child, they sign an agreement with both the child and its family. Their help includes a «living allowance» for food and clothing and school fees. More information here.
CAMBODIA
CamConscious – Creating economic opportunities for artisans
We have the great pleasure to support the project proposed by CamConscious Tourism, a Cambodian based NGO which aims to develop and promote sustainable tourism in Cambodia. The project targets to develop cultural tourism within “Tampuan” minorities living in Rattanakiri province. It help local communities in the promotion of traditional arts and crafts with special focus on development of Tampuan cultural and heritage tours and development of micro-businesses connected to the traditional art/craft. More information here.
GAEA – Recycling glass in Cambodia…for the first time!
In Siem Reap city, many businesses still burn their waste as opposed to having it hauled away. Glass bottles do not burn, these end up with mountains of glass bottles. GAEA estimates 9 tons per day of glass waste generation, most of it being wildly disposed or going into the local landfill. We have supported the purchase of a machine able to pulverize glass into sand and so reduce by half the quantity of glass bottles wildly disposed or going to the landfill. “Glass-to-sand” project is also led in cooperation with other tourism stakeholders such as hotels, food & beverages businesses etc. More information here.
THAILAND
WFFT – Rescuing wild animals
We have renewed our support to WFFT (Wildlife Friends Foundation Thailand) which aims to create a new habitat for rescued wild animals at Kuiburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan. WFFT rescues 100’s of animals each year, they are currently full to capacity with rescued animals and have a waiting list of animals in need of help. Thus, we have supported them with the purchase of hectares of land to be used for rescued animals and taken care of by local people. More information here.
VIETNAM
Reform- Creating “Precious Plastic” centers
ReForm uses plastic waste to produce new tradable products in a decentralized system that can be implemented throughout the country and region while improving waste workers’ income and livelihood. ReForm uses the existing infrastructure of collection centers and transforms them into small production facilities. Currently, collection centers typically just engage in trading of (mostly) plastic bottles and other high value recyclables. The so called ReForm centers are equipped by ReForm with efficient low cost machinery, collection and processing equipment and training to process the daily yield into products that are centrally purchased and distributed by ReForm.
