Share The Wonder’s Heartwarming Journey: Trip Report July 2023″
“
In the midst of the global pandemic in 2020, Share The Wonder’s inspiring story unfolded. Two organizations, EXO Foundation and Tourism In Need, united in a shared mission: to provide vital support to local communities in Southeast Asia during the crisis. Their joint project focused on organizing enjoyable and educational day trips for underprivileged children in the region, ensuring that tourism continued to make a positive impact on local communities. Fueled by their expertise in tourism product development and their unwavering commitment to meaningful travel, this collaboration was born.
Trip Report: Luong Son, Vietnam – July 26, 2023
Participants: A group of 14 girls and 8 boys, all of whom were supported by the Blue Dragon Children’s Foundation, an organization dedicated to helping impoverished children and children with disabilities in Vietnam.
The Day Trip Itinerary:
Morning – Art House, Luong Son: The children embarked on an enriching journey into the world of ancient papermaking. They had the privilege of learning this traditional craft from a skilled artisan, gaining insights into the art of papermaking.
Lunch: A delectable meal served in a picturesque setting not only satisfied their appetites but also provided an ideal environment for the children to reflect on their newfound knowledge and share their experiences.
Afternoon – Swim Time: A refreshing dip in the Art House’s private swimming pool offered the children a delightful way to cool off and create lasting memories before the return trip to Hanoi.
Testimonials from the Children:
- One child expressed, “A trip like this makes me super happy.”
- Another child, with the help of a sign interpreter, conveyed their excitement about trying their hand at making “Dó” paper and their commitment to protecting the forests for the sake of this art.
- “Today is my happiest day of the summer because I can eat delicious food, make Dó paper, and swim. I’m happy to bring home handmade Dó paper,” shared another child.
- One child, initially apprehensive, revealed, “Today I feel very happy; this is my first time making this kind of paper. It turned out not to be as difficult as I thought at first.”
The Overall Success: The trip was an unequivocal success, with all 22 children radiating excitement and happiness throughout the day. This excursion was particularly remarkable for its inclusivity, as it embraced children with disabilities, including those who were deaf, blind, and intellectually disabled. With dedicated support and sign language interpreters, these children seamlessly integrated into the experience, sharing the joys alongside their peers.
Both the children and their organizers expressed their deep gratitude for this opportunity. In times of economic hardship, when basic necessities such as food, shelter, clothing, and education often take precedence, the chance to embark on such a meaningful journey is a priceless gift. Unfortunately, funds for trips like these are not always readily available.
Sponsorship Opportunities: This heart-warming project can continue to make a difference with the support of generous individuals. For just $25 per child, EXO Travel clients can help organize one-day trips like this, ensuring that more underprivileged children can experience the wonder of travel.
