Lao Conservation Trust for Wildlife (LCTW) is a non-profit organization that works to protect wildlife animals and rescue them from illegal wildlife trade. Once rescued, animals will be taken care of by veterinarians and rehabilitated until they are ready to be released into the wild. For those who cannot return into the forest, because they are too injured for example, they can live in the sanctuary in Laos where they will be taken care of and live in an environment as similar as possible from the wild.
What do they do?
Conservation
LCTW protects endangered species from extinction like the Keeled box-turtle or the Siamese crocodile. In order to do that they either reinforce existing wild populations or reintroduce them into specific areas.
Rescue
One of the main activities of LCTW is to rescue threatened animals from dangers such as illegal trafficking. A special Hotline has been opened in Laos so that people can report wildlife threats directly and anonymously. This line was established with funding from the European Union in partnership with the Wildlife Conservation Society.
Release
Animals who are healthy enough to return to the forest follow a rehabilitation process and can then be released into the wild.
Education
The center offers the opportunity to tourists to visit the sanctuary, which is home to animals that cannot be returned to the wild. Educational activities on wildlife and the danger of illegal animal trafficking are provided by professionals. LCTW also welcomes volunteers, students and interns so they can learn about wildlife conservation and protection.
How can you help?
You can make a donation with the amount of your choice to help the center.
You can also volunteer at LCTW to learn more about wildlife species while helping for the cause. Different volunteering programmes are offered and some of them do not require any particular formation.
Or you can join LCTW on a tour to discover wildlife accompanied by a guide. There are different types of tours, from family tours to the most adventurous ones !
EXO Foundation support
EXO Foundation made a donation to support LCTW in their mission to rescue wildlife. The funds will directly contribute to animals well being and daily care such as feeding and veterinary care.
The LTCW sanctuary is one of the responsible tourism activities recommended to our travel partners. We highly recommend its visits.
