Singapore’s vibrant hawker culture is celebrated globally as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage. But at Dignity Kitchen, operated by the social enterprise Project Dignity, hawker food serves a much higher purpose: restoring dignity, independence, and self-worth to individuals with physical disabilities, intellectual challenges, and disadvantaged backgrounds.
Through professional culinary training, specialized kitchen equipment, and job placement, Project Dignity empowers differently-abled individuals to become self-sufficient hawker chefs and food service professionals.
This year 2026, EXO Foundation supported EXO Travel Singapore’s community outreach initiative with Project Dignity.
Hands-On Engagement: Learning, Serving, and Connecting
Our team engaged directly with Project Dignity’s mission through their “Learn with Lunch & Outreach” program:
- 100 Bento Meals Sponsored: The EXO Foundation sponsored 100 freshly prepared bento meals cooked by the Dignity Kitchen team to be distributed to low-income residents and elderly neighbors in the community.
- Inclusive Communication: The EXO Singapore team participated in an introductory basic sign language workshop, learning how to communicate effectively with deaf and hard-of-hearing team members.
- Community Distribution: EXO staff worked side-by-side with the Project Dignity team to package and hand-deliver warm bento meals directly to local beneficiaries.
Why Inclusive Tourism & Social Enterprise Matter
At EXO Foundation, we believe that sustainable tourism must extend beyond environmental conservation to foster inclusive, equitable societies. Project Dignity exemplifies how social entrepreneurship can transform everyday food culture into a platform for workplace inclusion, empathy, and social good.
By creating opportunities for differently-abled individuals to gain meaningful employment, Project Dignity breaks down social stigmas and proves that everyone has a valuable contribution to make.
